Adjutant Copp
Carl announced a Veterans Expo is being held at D/Y high school on Saturday Oct. 21,

Carl also covered the termination of MCL’955 operations, and preparations for a

Tom Kelley
reviewed the splendid service to the community performed by former Battle Color
manager Bill Stokes and by Don Costa. (Stokes passed away last winter and was buried with

AMVETS MEETING MINUTES…. September 21, 2017
3:05 Meeting opened at our new and permanent meeting place, the Dennis Police Station
with salute to flag, pledge, and invocation and by Cmdr. Fallon.
Attendance
:
All officers present.
Total attendance of 13: (Fallon, Watling, Copp, Hawkesworth, Spellman, L’etoile,
Maceachern, Archambault, Gingras, Von Hone, Cobb, Fontaine, Mahoney.)
Minutes:
of June 15 meeting were distributed by email or paper copies and approved.
Sr. Vice Hawkesworth
Brian
Hawkesworth gave the financial report. A balance of $3,636.44 remained in Post’s 333
checking account as of 8/31/2017. A motion was made to accept the report, seconded and
passed .
The Sr. Vice gave his activity report for July and August, highlighting his service officer work, an
overview of the status of the Dennis Field of Honor (FOH) program’s activity; sales and financial
health.
That prompted an overall discussion about the FOH and the Barnstable DAV’s promise to
return any money remaining (approx. $3,400.00) in their FOH account which Commander Fallon
had requested by letter. The agreement with the DAV was for one year (2016) only. The Sr. Vice
then detailed the structure and requirements of the FOH patent holder, Colonial Flag
Foundation which is a 501( C )3 non-profit. After some discussion, member Ken Gingras made a
motion that “the money returned to the AMVETS should be contributed to the FOH account as
a Sponsor’s donation from the Post and therefore would eliminate any potential conflict with
AMVETS National Bi-laws and the Colonial Flag Foundation rules. Additionally, the FOH program
should be run by their Committee as a totally separate entity from the Post or any other
veteran’s organization. Separating the two would allow for an unrestricted donation back to the
Post after the event thus, satisfying both Colonial Flag and the charitable needs of Post 333. The
FOH Committee would also have sole discretion as to all disbursements to qualified community
causes. The motion was seconded and passed by unanimous vote.
The current FOH program at Kelley Park Nov 10-12 is going nicely with around 100 of the 250
flag pledges memorandum already received back. Beneficiaries in 2016 included Operation
Delta Dog, Emerald Hollow Therapeutic Riding Center and Operation Flags for Vets at Bourne.
Jr. Vice Commander Watling
.
Harry reminded Dennis committee meeting members to contact Laurie Barr at town
offices ASAP if they wished to attend the annual volunteer Appreciation Brunch at the Sea View
Restaurant at 8:30
am on Thursday October5. He also invited members to attend the Camp
Edwards annual open house this coming weekend. He will man a post there himself on Sunday.
Adjutant Copp
Carl described a horror story of a handicapped Viet Nam vet, he just met, who was barely able
to survive with his wife, the flood of their home in Houston from hurricane Harvey. Carl
proposed Amvets donate $200 for the victims of the hurricane there and in Florida. It was
approved and a check will be sent via the appropriate rescue firm.
Upon request of volunteers to help man the field Nov 10-12, it was recommended these should
go through FOH officer Gingras. Volunteer times there are being shortened to 2 hours each from
4 hours previously.
The next Amvets meeting is scheduled at 3pm, Thursday Oct.19 at the Dennis Police Station.
Commander Fallon
The commander requested all in attendance at our meeting be respectful to each other.
Joe also endorsed a motion, approved by members, that a $400 debt be paid by the FOH for
prior services received by them. He also reported current year Amvets’ dues are being received
and new membership cards distributed by him.
It was his pleasure for us to accept for our post 333 , the application for new membership
in Amvets by Dave Maceachern.
